29 weeks

Only one more week and we'll be 3/4 of the way through! Baby G is doing great, moving and putting on weight. We did some math the other day: Baby G weighs about 3 pounds at 30wks but the average baby now is around 8 pounds at birth. That means baby G should gain about 5 pounds in 10wks. Folks, that is 1/2 a pound a week from here on out. I guess that means if the belly looks like it's exploding then I'm doing my job ;)

Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day.

Now everyone's favorite part, the belly shots:

I sorta like the last one best, not only do those shorts fit better now then when we painted the outside of the house but it looks like I have consealed a ball under that shirt.

I guess this gives you a hint as to how the nursery is coming along...we bought the Elfa system on Friday so we could get the closet in order. Once I had that system in my hot little hands I simply couldn't wait to get it in. I had the closet cleared out before Dominic even swapped the SUV for a car, about 15min. We filled holes and primed the whole thing that evening and the following morning when Dominic worked I painted the final coat (it's the same as both bedrooms in our house, imperfect pearl). The system is pretty easy to install and since we've done one before we made quick work of this one. I have a few of our dressier things and some clothes that are too big for us in there now but I'm going to do a little more purging before it all goes back in. Overall I'm thrilled with the results. Oh and the baskets at the bottom are holding toys and blankets and I intend to use them mainly for toy storage since they're at a great level for baby to reach! Total for the closet system, baskets and paint $400.

The walls were filthy

And the new tele came in handy!

Painted and ready to install the new system

team work :)

It's not all back in yet but not everything is going back in so I'm only putting those things that are CERTAINLY staying back for now.

The final product (for real this time)

Having my mother-in-law come to visit has proven to be a great motivator to get some "on the back burner" projects finished up. As you know I posted a few days back with my almost final on the office bookshelf and yesterday the remainder of my filing boxes arrived and I got everything put together....I moved all the manuals to one and the other holds more files. And to prove that I don't have a bunch of stuff left to find a home for...here is the desk that was piled high last time. I do have a few frames underneath because I'm horrible at deciding where to hang things. However, I did get out my trusty hammer and tape measure and get a few things on the wall like our wedding gift from Cindy and my parents....our family tree. If you pay attention you'll notice that the tree is not yet completed but I have until our first anniversary for that, right Cin ;)
And the wonderful frame that used to be over the mantle (where our ginormous tv now resides) is in place over our massive bed. It seems I like things that are big, massive, large or otherwise on the huge side but oh well, it just means I have to find fewer objects to fill a space. Oh yeah, the picture will be switched out shortly, I'm thinking of using a picture from our honeymoon or maybe the wedding.

Update on bookshelves and organization

But first, please admire the gorgeous flowers we had sitting on our table, in the WONDERFUL kate spade vase we received as a wedding gift that I never would have bought myself but have NO idea what I would do without now. Isn't the way they drape just so lovely? And they have this color variation in the middle, sort of an orangy yellow.
And off topic still, I'm really trying to pare down my closet so that one day soon Dominic and I can share the master. This is only half of mine, but the other is not really used too much, mainly just long hanging stuff that's rarely worn. His is actually 2ft longer than mine right now but if we ever want to have a baby then we need to clear some space and that means combining. Remember a while back when Dominic purged??? At least I've got him started ;)

Now onto the real agenda...the bookcases
Here are the two in the living room upclose and then a wider angle. I am not quite finished but this is CERTAINLY better than I had before. Also, we've finally gotten ahold of comcast and they've worked some magic on the outside line to the house, gotten us a new DVR box, and installed phone service so that TiVo should be out my next month. What type of green plant should I put in that holder on the first shelf????
Just incase you were wondering, this is the adjoining dining room. Much more spacious, and with new tulips for this week

And finally for the biggest improvement, the office. I am still waiting on 2 more filing boxes which I'm going to replace the 2 binders with, oh and that lone white one will be green soon too.Just incase you thought I was truely finished, here is the desk with all the 'what do I do with this' items....I think the majority are destined for the trash since we don't really use any of this. With the exception of my wonderful basket, thanks mom!

I love my new organization

Yesterday when I arrived home what did I see but the UPS man pulling out of our cul-de-sac...maybe my office organizers are here...YES!!!! Now, I'm sure you're wondering how one can be so excited about boxes and organizing but I'm a little odd and it just makes to so happy, it's actually a wonderful stress reliever. Needless to say, I've been working during my lunches on getting that totally over stuffed bookcase in the office/guestroom more presentable. I'm hoping to have updated photos for you by late next week. I would have them this weekend however 1 of the boxes was damaged in transit, I need them all for the complete look and they can't ship the replacement out until monday. Guess you know where I'll be during my free time for a while.
Where you ask will Dominic be???? In front of the TV playing the new Grand Theft Auto IV. For all you video game virgins this is the stealing cars, beating up guys, and unspeakable acts game that our children will not watch or play until they're 18. With that said, I bought it for him and I hope he thoroghly enjoys it :)

Asparagus Festival

Today we made our first treck to the stockton asparagus festival, Dominic was there last year volunteering but I was on call and couldn't go....Our first stop was the wonderful asparagus food....starting with asparagus burritos, tri tip and asparagus sandwiches and an aspara-mary, which was SPICY

Then we headed for the fried asparagus tent...look at all those people making fried food...they give you six BIG stocks sprinkled with parm and ranch to dunk them in
We decided to take a little walk and find out what else the festival had to offer when we stumbled upon the asparagus eating contest. This is no amature competition, it's goverened by the International Federation of Competitive Eating. We waited in the hot sun (mid 80's) for the competition to begin and were amazed at the different approaches to readying the stocks for quick consumption. Many of the guys were pouring tons of beverages and drenching the stocks with water. Two of the best were in attendance, Joey Chestnut and Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti (both currently ranked higher than the well known Takeru Kobayashi). Of course the hometown boy Joey (he's from San Jose) won for the 4th year in a row...you might notice the numbers they're holding up, that's how many pounds they have eaten already, and the final was more than 8lbs for both first and second place (that's in 10min)
Now that eating was the furthest thing from my mind, we continued to walk around and stumbled upon another fun competition, a dog competition. The pups were in a relay where they had to jump the hurdles and pull the ball off the board and return back when the next dog took off...it's amazing how well they time those jumps so they don't even lose stride.
At this point we were trying to avoid sunburn and decided it was best to head home, but again we came across something interesting...check out the truck we discovered between stockton and modesto....I made Dominic slow down so I could capture this unique vehicle
Finally we arrived home and thankfully were NOT sunburned, here is the pup in her typical weekend rest period, followed by her crazy time, she literally moves from one straight into the other without provoking and the back to rest again

While Dominic managed the pup and XBox 360 I decided to tackle a project I have been putting off since Jan 2006...Organizing and weeding through my nursing school notes. In the end it turned out to be best that I waited because I can now adequately assess what information I truely need to keep and what is just common knowledge for me. Here is the before and after. How small is that after stack!!! and I uncovered my 'award'...I thought it was fitting and you might agree ;)

I bought me some organization!

I'm sure everyone remembers this picture of that bookcase in our office that is TOTALLY overstuffed. Well today I've started down my path to fix that eyesore....just a reminder of the beforeI was doing my morning blog role call and found these wonderful file boxes to replace those clear boxes that are way too big for the bookcase. I got a combo of white and green
And I picked up a few boxes to hold extra papers and misc tools from the same site. Best part...they were 1/2 the price of the same ones at the container store. Now I need to pick up some new folders to help coordinate everything..PS dominic will be finding out about these wonderful purchases when ya'll do! :)
